'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' pushed toward the $500 million worldwide mark on Wednesday, as Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios reported robust midweek grosses following the film's record domestic opening. The Tom Holland-led reboot claimed the biggest domestic debut of all time, according to studio data reported by Comscore and Box Office Mojo.
Analysts had projected a steep second-week drop, but weekday receipts in the United States and Canada outpaced expectations. Overseas performance drove much of the momentum, with India delivering some of the strongest per-screen returns outside North America.
Sony's international distribution arm said the film continued to top charts in Britain, Mexico and South Korea, aided by IMAX and premium large-format screenings. Box office trackers noted that a sub-$500 million total within two weeks would strengthen the franchise's case as a summer anchor for both studios.
A Sony spokesperson said the studio was "thrilled" with the film's sustained demand heading into the weekend. Exhibitors credited positive word of mouth and repeat viewings for the film's durability in a crowded August marketplace.
