Netflix led all US streaming platforms in viewership share for the third week of September, according to Nielsen data released Thursday. The surge was powered by a wave of new crime and mystery series added at the start of the fall season.

The momentum follows Netflix's September rollout of multiple original thrillers and international crime dramas, which JustWatch highlighted as the month's most-added titles. Fall has traditionally been Netflix's strongest window for retaining subscribers ahead of the holiday quarter.

The strong showing comes as JustWatch, the Berlin-based streaming guide, prepares to launch its own free ad-supported service, JustWatch TV, in October. The move places the aggregator in direct competition with the platforms whose catalogues it tracks, intensifying the crowded free-streaming market.

Analysts at MoffettNathanson noted that Netflix's content volume advantage continued to widen the gap with Disney+, Max and Amazon Prime Video, which have trimmed spending. A Netflix spokesperson said the platform expected engagement to climb further as additional fourth-quarter titles arrived.

The strong showing reinforces Netflix's position heading into its next earnings report, where executives are expected to emphasize viewing hours over raw subscriber figures as the industry standard for measuring performance.
