LONDON — The United Kingdom and a coalition of 29 allies announced new sanctions against Iran on Wednesday, days after jointly accusing Tehran of orchestrating drone-related attacks linked to RAF Fairford. The Foreign Office confirmed the measures targeted Iranian individuals and entities.
Britain, the United States and 27 other governments issued a joint statement blaming Iran for what they described as 'violent attacks' on allied territory. Tehran has rejected the accusations and demanded that the signatories produce evidence to support their claim.
The British Foreign Secretary said the sanctions targeted members of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and procurement networks accused of supplying drone technology. Additional travel bans and asset freezes were coordinated with the US Treasury and the European Union.
Iran's Foreign Ministry condemned the measures as 'baseless and politically motivated' and warned of reciprocal steps against European interests. A ministry spokesperson in Tehran repeated demands for proof linking the Islamic Republic to the Fairford incident.
RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire hosts US Air Force strategic bombers and has long been considered a sensitive military site. British defence officials said security around key installations had been reviewed following the incident.
