Louis Oosthuizen confirmed on Friday that he will leave LIV Golf, becoming the latest major championship winner to abandon the Saudi-backed circuit. The 2010 Open champion's exit follows a string of high-profile departures that have weakened the league's competitive standing.

Oosthuizen had been one of LIV Golf's marquee signings since joining the breakaway tour, where he captained his own team. His exit comes as the league struggles to retain the elite names it recruited with guaranteed contracts worth tens of millions of dollars.

The South African's decision reflects wider doubts about LIV Golf's long-term future following the stalled framework agreement between the PIF and the PGA Tour. Several players have cited concerns over world ranking points and eligibility for the four majors, which LIV events do not award.

The PGA Tour and DP World Tour have intensified efforts to re-absorb disaffected players, while sponsors and broadcasters have questioned LIV's commercial viability. The loss of established champions removes much of the credibility the league purchased at considerable expense.

LIV Golf has not issued a detailed statement on Oosthuizen's departure, though the circuit has publicly insisted its roster remains strong heading into the 2027 season.
