PHILADELPHIA — Major League Baseball's 96th All-Star Game will be played at Citizens Bank Park on Tuesday, bringing the sport's premier exhibition to the home of the Philadelphia Phillies. The National League will attempt to extend its recent winning streak in the annual showcase.

The game follows a weekend of All-Star festivities, including Monday's Home Run Derby and the Futures Game held earlier at the same venue. Tampa Bay Rays prospect Nathan Flewelling earned Most Valuable Player honors in the Futures Game after a two-run home run helped American League prospects to a 6-1 victory.

Managers of the two leagues, determined by the previous season's pennant winners, named their starting lineups from fan voting, player balloting and commissioner's office selections. Star players including reigning batting champions and Cy Young contenders are expected to feature in front of a capacity crowd.

The All-Star Game carries no bearing on postseason home-field advantage, a format MLB abandoned in 2017, leaving the contest as a celebration of the sport's leading talent. Philadelphia last hosted the event in 1996, adding significance for the Phillies organization and their supporters.

MLB officials noted the game would showcase the league's international pipeline, with players from across the Americas and Asia named to both rosters ahead of the second half of the season.
