BOCA CHICA, Texas — SpaceX engineers on Monday were reviewing telemetry from the company's most successful Starship flight to date as the firm pursued a faster launch cadence for its next-generation Starlink deployment missions. Starship Flight 13 deployed a batch of next-generation Starlink satellites and completed a controlled splashdown, which SpaceX described as its most precise recovery of the upper stage so far.
Engineers highlighted improved heat-shield performance and a stable descent profile as key gains from the mission. SpaceX has said repeatedly that rapid reusability of both the Super Heavy booster and the Starship upper stage is central to lowering launch costs and expanding Starlink capacity.
Company leadership has set a goal of shortening the interval between flights to weeks rather than months, contingent on hardware inspections and regulatory clearance from the Federal Aviation Administration. The latest flight comes as SpaceX faces mounting demand for orbital capacity and scrutiny over the environmental impact of frequent launches from its Starbase site in South Texas.
The FAA must sign off on flight plans and mishap reviews before each attempt, a process that has periodically slowed the program's cadence. SpaceX has not confirmed a firm date for Flight 14, but company statements indicated a target of late summer, pending data review and range availability at Starbase.
