CUPERTINO, California — Apple on Monday released iOS 26.1, a software update targeting bugs in the recently launched iPhone 18 line and adding accessibility adjustments for the foldable iPhone Duo. The update followed the September 9 launch of the iPhone 18 Pro and the dual-screen iPhone Duo, which drew criticism in the days after release.

Reports from the New York Post and other outlets described complaints from left-handed users who said the Duo's interface layout favoured right-handed operation. Apple's release notes referenced improvements to display orientation and one-handed controls.

iOS 26.1 also included performance refinements for the A20 chip and adjustments to satellite messaging features that shipped with the new devices, according to Apple's documentation. The company typically issues a first point update within roughly a week of a major iPhone launch to resolve early defects.

Accessibility advocates had urged Apple to address the Duo's layout, arguing that the fixed-position controls disadvantaged a significant share of users. Apple said the update introduced customisable control placement, allowing owners to reposition key navigation elements on both screens.

Apple confirmed the update was available worldwide for compatible devices through the Settings app, with additional refinements scheduled for the autumn.
