'The Odyssey' crossed the Rs 100 crore mark at the Indian box office on Tuesday, as Christopher Nolan's mythological epic sustained strong multiplex bookings into its first full week of release. The milestone came days after the film opened to blockbuster numbers across major cities.
The film, released through Universal Pictures, had targeted Rs 25 crore-plus on its second day. IMAX and premium large-format screens accounted for a significant share of collections, with PVR Inox reporting near-capacity shows in Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad.
'The Odyssey', an adaptation of Homer's epic starring Matt Damon and Tom Holland, has drawn on Nolan's established Indian following. His previous films 'Oppenheimer' and 'Interstellar' performed strongly in the market. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh noted that the film's IMAX-driven ticket pricing had boosted per-screen revenue despite competition.
The Indian performance adds to what distributors described as a robust global opening for the Universal release. Industry observers expect the film to face fresh competition when Tom Holland's 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' opens, having already generated Rs 15 crore in Indian presales.
A PVR Inox spokesperson said advance bookings for the coming weekend remained healthy, signalling that 'The Odyssey' could extend its run well into its second week across Indian screens.
