Cocktail 2, the Bollywood romantic drama directed by Homi Adajania, crossed the Rs 100 crore mark at the Indian box office on Sunday, trade analysts reported. The film collected Rs 64 crore in its first week.
The sequel revives the franchise that began with the 2012 hit Cocktail, drawing audiences back to multiplexes in Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru. Trade tracking sites including Sacnilk reported steady weekend footfalls, with exhibitors noting strong evening shows across major metros over the holiday period.
Cocktail 2 now prepares to face competition from Welcome To The Jungle, the multi-starrer comedy slated to enter theatres in the coming days. Trade analysts predict the clash will test the staying power of Adajania's film as screens are reallocated to fresh releases.
Distributors said the second-weekend performance positioned the film as one of the stronger Hindi-language earners of the summer, though overseas figures remained modest compared with domestic returns. Producers were expected to release consolidated worldwide numbers early in the week.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh said sustained word of mouth would be decisive. "The next few days will determine whether Cocktail 2 holds its screens once the new releases arrive," he wrote on social media.
