TIRANA — Albanian protesters resumed demonstrations on Saturday against a Trump family-linked luxury resort planned near the Vjosa river delta, extending a campaign activists have dubbed the 'Flamingo Revolution.' Police deployed tear gas as crowds gathered along the protected coastline.

The development, backed by a firm connected to Jared Kushner's Affinity Partners, would build a high-end resort on land near one of Europe's last wild rivers. Environmental groups argue the project threatens protected wetlands and a habitat for flamingos and other migratory birds in the Narta lagoon area.

Earlier clashes this week saw demonstrators throw eggs and rocks while officers responded with tear gas, according to Albanian outlets and Deutsche Welle. Opposition figures have seized on the dispute to criticise Prime Minister Edi Rama's government, which has promoted the investment as a boost to Albania's tourism economy.

The protests coincide with scrutiny in Washington, where House Democrats this week questioned the finances of Trump-linked ventures abroad. Environmental campaigners in Vlora said they would continue mobilising until the project's permits were reviewed, framing the fight as one over sovereignty and ecological protection.

Rama's office has defended the development as legally approved and economically vital. Organisers of Saturday's march vowed further demonstrations in the coming weeks.

"They want to sell our coastline to foreign billionaires," one protester told local broadcaster Top Channel. "We will not let them bury the Vjosa under concrete."
