DENVER — Shohei Ohtani continued his assault on National League pitching Thursday night, launching his 18th home run of the season in the fourth inning to help the Los Angeles Dodgers pull away from the Colorado Rockies 7-4 at Coors Field, extending Los Angeles's hold on first place in the NL West.

Ohtani's two-run blast off Rockies starter Cal Quantrill sailed an estimated 438 feet to left-center, his third home run in the last five games. The reigning MVP has been particularly dangerous on the road in 2026, posting a .349 average with eight of his home runs coming away from Dodger Stadium. The Coors Field altitude, long a equaliser for opposing pitchers, did not slow Los Angeles's offensive machine, which also received run-producing contributions from Freddie Freeman and Will Smith.

Dodgers starter Gavin Stone worked into the sixth inning, allowing three earned runs before manager Dave Roberts turned to a four-man bullpen bridge. Alex Vesia, Evan Phillips, and closer Blake Treinen combined for three scoreless innings to close it out, with Treinen notching his 19th save of the year in a relatively clean ninth.

Colorado showed signs of fight behind Charlie Blackmon, who added a solo shot in the seventh to keep the crowd briefly engaged, but the Rockies' bullpen struggled after Quantrill's exit, issuing four walks and surrendering three critical runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Colorado, sitting last in the NL West with a 17-36 record, has now dropped seven of its last ten home games.

The win pushed the Dodgers to 38-16 on the season and maintained their four-game cushion over the San Diego Padres in the division standings. Los Angeles will look to clinch the series Thursday and head into the weekend with momentum as postseason seeding conversations intensify across the National League.
