FIFA rules prohibit political, religious, or personal messages on the pitch and in stadium celebrations. Match officials filed a report on the banner, and FIFA's disciplinary committee will examine whether sanctions are warranted under the tournament code of conduct.

Several players were photographed unfurling the message immediately after the final whistle. Images circulated widely on social media and drew comment from officials in both federations. The Argentine Football Association had not issued a formal statement by Saturday afternoon.

The review adds to the political sensitivities surrounding the fixture, which carries historical weight for both nations. FIFA has previously fined national associations and individual players for breaching its rules on political expression, with penalties ranging from financial sanctions to touchline suspensions.

The English Football Association declined to comment, saying it regarded the matter as one for FIFA's disciplinary process. A decision on any charge is expected in the coming days.
