Malaysia's Democratic Action Party moved closer to confirming Anthony Loke as its leader on Tuesday, as additional state chapters echoed Johor's endorsement of the transport minister ahead of the party's internal polls.

The Johor DAP publicly backed Loke on Monday, expressing full confidence in his stewardship. As secretary-general, Loke has been the DAP's most senior figure since Lim Guan Eng stepped back from front-line leadership, and he holds a cabinet post in Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's unity government.

The endorsements come as the DAP prepares for its central executive committee elections, a periodic contest that reshapes the party's top leadership. Loke has sought to modernise the party's image and broaden its appeal beyond its traditional Chinese-majority base, positioning it as a multiracial force within the Pakatan Harapan coalition.

Party leaders said the coordinated backing from state divisions was intended to project unity before the internal vote. The DAP remains a critical component of Anwar's governing majority, and its leadership stability carries implications for the durability of the coalition in Putrajaya.

Loke has repeatedly stated that his priority is strengthening the party organisation and delivering on government commitments. Analysts at Malaysian think tanks have noted that a smooth leadership transition would reassure coalition partners ahead of coming state elections.
