PARIS — Paris Fashion Week continued Saturday with Spring/Summer 2027 shows headlined by Pierpaolo Piccioli's closely watched collection for Balenciaga, as the industry assessed whether recent designer appointments could revive flagging luxury sales.

The French capital's nine-day event, organised by the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode, has become the focal point of a season defined by creative-director turnover across luxury conglomerates LVMH and Kering. Piccioli, who left Valentino, took the reins at Balenciaga following Demna's departure to Gucci earlier this year.

Saturday's schedule drew editors, retailers and celebrities to venues across the city. Front rows tracked whether the new appointments could reverse sales declines at houses under pressure from a slowing luxury market.

Kering, which owns Balenciaga, has reported softening demand and is banking on fresh design leadership to reverse the trend. Analysts at Bernstein and industry publications including Business of Fashion and Vogue Runway have framed the week as a test of the recent hiring spree, with each debut collection scrutinised for commercial as well as creative merit.

Buyers said orders placed this week would shape the houses' fortunes into 2027. The event runs through the following week and culminates in shows from Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Miu Miu, cementing Paris as the final and most influential stop on the global fashion calendar after New York, London and Milan.
