PORTLAND, Ore. — Nike released its ice cream-themed Air Force 1 sneakers on Friday, extending a summer collection of pastel, mesh-panelled shoes that resellers and streetwear outlets had trailed earlier in the week.
The release built on momentum from KITH's revival of the "Linen" colorway and other breezy overhauls that sneaker sites, including House of Heat, had covered days earlier. The Air Force 1, first introduced in 1982, remains one of Nike's most reliably marketed silhouettes, frequently reworked for seasonal drops.
Sneaker retailers timed the launch to the height of summer, when lighter materials and playful colorways typically drive strong demand among younger buyers. Nike has increasingly used mesh construction and food-inspired themes to differentiate limited runs and generate resale interest on platforms such as StockX.
The pattern reflects a broader industry trend in which established silhouettes are refreshed to sustain sales through the summer calendar. Streetwear coverage suggested the pastel palette and dessert motif were aimed squarely at social-media-driven consumers who track releases closely.
A Nike spokesperson described the Air Force 1 line as a cornerstone of the brand's heritage franchise, one the company continues to reinvent for new seasons and audiences.
