American bars, restaurants and liquor retailers launched tequila promotions on Wednesday, timed to National Tequila Day on July 24, offering tastings, discounts and limited cocktail menus to draw summer crowds. Brands from Patrón to Casamigos joined the marketing push.

Observed annually on July 24, the celebration has grown into a significant commercial event for the spirits trade. The Distilled Spirits Council of the United States reported that agave-based spirits overtook American whiskey as the second-largest spirits category by revenue, with tequila and mezcal sales continuing to climb through 2025.

Retailers including Total Wine & More promoted premium and añejo expressions, while cocktail bars in New York, Los Angeles and Austin advertised margarita specials and guided flights. Several brands used the occasion to spotlight newer high-end releases, targeting drinkers trading up from lower-priced bottles.

The holiday arrives as overall spirits consumption softens, prompting some producers to lean on themed days to sustain momentum. A Distilled Spirits Council spokesperson said seasonal occasions remained important for reaching younger, cocktail-focused consumers who favour tequila's versatility.

Bartenders and importers expected the strongest activity on Friday itself, though many venues extended offers across the full weekend to capture summer trade before the late-July slowdown.
