Focus Features confirmed on Tuesday that Robert Eggers' medieval werewolf film 'Werwulf' will open in theatres during the December holiday corridor, releasing a second trailer and new production stills.

The film reunites Eggers with the creative team behind his commercially successful 2024 remake of 'Nosferatu', which grossed more than $180 million worldwide. Written by Eggers and Sjón, 'Werwulf' is set in 13th-century England and performed entirely in a reconstructed medieval English dialect.

The newly released materials emphasised the film's period authenticity, including natural-light cinematography and practical creature effects, hallmarks of Eggers' earlier work on 'The Witch' and 'The Lighthouse'. Focus Features said the studio would position the film across both genre and craft categories during the coming awards season.

The holiday release places 'Werwulf' in direct competition with major studio titles, echoing the counter-programming strategy that helped 'Nosferatu' succeed in December 2024. Deadline and Variety reported strong exhibitor interest in the film's theatrical run.

Eggers has described the project as his most technically demanding film to date, citing the linguistic reconstruction and location shooting. The director confirmed the collaboration in earlier interviews promoting the film's marketing rollout.
